500 Women Modern Apprentices Achieved

“500 women in Modern Apprentices is good news for reducing skill shortages”, said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation. “This is the first time we have achieved that number”.

“The wisdom of opening up Modern Apprenticeships to industry sectors with high numbers of women in the labour force has been proven. Not only do we have increasing numbers of women in Modern Apprenticeships but we have an increasing proportion of women in Modern Apprenticeships.

“Women have been increasing in areas such as tourism, public sector, retail and horticulture. Hospitality, bakery and agriculture are continuing areas of strong female participation.

“Women are still very much a minority of Modern Apprentices, 7.3% in the latest statistics, so we need to keep pressing home to Government that all industries should be able to bid for Modern Apprentices. It is unfortunate that several industries with strong female participation are excluded from having Modern Apprentices.

“None-the-less every set of statistics shows greater numbers of women and a greater proportion of women participating.
