KIWI MEN ASPIRE TO EMULATE OLYMPIAN SMOOTHNESS
As our television screens deliver their nightly crop of Adonis-like Olympic athletes, take a closer look and see how
many you can spot with any noticeable body hair...
Then spare a thought for the legions of aspiring cyclists, swimmers, runners and even rugby players in New Zealand who
do battle with literally meters of unwanted body hair.
Determined to shed nature's bounty in pursuit of greater speed, less water and wind resistance or faster healing from
scrapes and grazes, thousands of Kiwi men wax or shave their chests, backs, legs and even arms...with an average male
athlete shedding upwards of four million hairs a time, sometimes on a daily basis.
New Zealand-based hair removal specialist Marzena, known for its successful range of women's hair removal products sold
locally and around the world, today announces its first collection of hair removal products developed specifically for
male athletes.
It is the first New Zealand-made product for men who love their sport, or want to achieve an athletic image.
In today's competitive sports arena, smoothness is synonymous with speed and hair removal is a routine part of an
athlete's training preparations.
Zeno BodyCare brand manager Tina Nattrass explained the research behind the new product range: "We know there are
thousands of New Zealand men who undertake extensive hair removal as part of their sports preparation. It is an
important and growing market.
"Our research told us men want a quick, easy solution to unwanted body hair - the less time they can take over getting
rid of body hair, the quicker they can get on with training or competing."
She added: "We learned that men from all walks of life - from cyclists and swimmers to burly rugby players and rugged
endurance athletes - were spending time and money ensuring their bodies were as smooth and hairfree as possible. It is
not seen as in any way 'unmanly', it is just a sporting fact of life."
The new Zeno products, which go on sale next month, include a specially formulated hair removal lotion, developed for
male strength body hair. This lotion is multi-purpose - capable of working equally well on leg and body hair - and takes
from as little as five minutes to apply and wash off.
Marzena has also included leg wax strips in the new Zeno product range for men who prefer to wax, removing hair for up
to six weeks at a time. The pre-waxed strips can be used anywhere, from team dressing rooms to poolside, without fuss or
mess. They have been developed with a generous coating of pine wax, providing maximum grip thickness for men's larger
hands.
Completing the range is Zeno polishing gel, which accentuates muscle definition and body contours while it exfoliates
and moisturizes the skin.
The new Zeno products will be on sale through selected supermarkets, pharmacies and variety stores from 20 September.
