Contact Brings Competition To Southern Hawkes Bay

Electricity consumers in Southern Hawkes Bay will soon have choice in their energy retailer with the entry of Contact Energy to the region on 12 August. The company is expanding its coverage nationwide to offer service to every part of the country.

Contact Energy General Manager Trading Steve Cross said Contact was delighted to provide choice to Southern Hawkes Bay electricity consumers who previously had no alternative to the incumbent retailer.

“Contact’s entry to Southern Hawkes Bay demonstrates our commitment to enhancing competition in the retail electricity market.

“From 12 August, some 4,500 homes in Southern Hawkes Bay will have choice in their electricity retailer, including the ability to collect FlyBuys points on their bill. Contact is the only electricity retailer to offer FlyBuys.

“Residential customers who want more information on switching to Contact should call 0800 80 9000 or visit our website www.mycontact.co.nz.”

Contact’s retail offer extends to all residential customers in the Southern Hawkes Bay area including Dannevirke and Woodville. Contact already offers retail service throughout the rest of Hawkes Bay.

Mr Cross said the company would be rolling out to the few remaining areas where Contact does not yet offer service.

“As one of the country’s leading energy retailers, committed to a competitive market for electricity, we want to be present and actively seek customers in Southern Hawkes Bay and throughout the country.”

“Over coming months we will be launching retail offers to people in King Country, Bay of Plenty, Wairoa, Buller and Westland. Since April’s announcement that Contact intends to provide nationwide coverage, we have already launched retail service in Waipa, Marlborough, Central Hawkes Bay and from 12 August, Southern Hawkes Bay.

“These moves will mean Contact Energy will retail electricity throughout the entire country, providing choice to every residential electricity consumer,” said Mr Cross.
