Joanna Paul Resigns For Maori TV

MÂORI TELEVISION STATEMENT

Mâori Television CEO, Ani Waaka, has announced that Joanna Paul, General Manager Programmes and Production, has resigned.

Ms Paul has played a key role in the establishment of Mâori Television over the last three years. She is a former member of the Board of Mâori Television and assumed the role of General Manager Programmes and Production in April 2002.

In announcing her resignation Ms Waaka said: "The positive public response to the style and mix of Mâori Television’s programming was, in large part, due to Joanna’s vision for the type of programming that would have wide appeal. We respect the significant contribution she has made to the birth of Mâori Television and her dedication and commitment to its success.”

Ms Paul said: "The establishment and launching of Maori Television has been a challenge and one of the great highlights of my career. It was the opportunity to bring together a team and to utilise all the skills I have learnt in over two decades in the broadcasting industry. Its success is my reward, and while I am sorry to be leaving the company the time has come to seek new challenges.”

Ms Paul said she has no immediate plans and will evaluate her options in the coming weeks. Her resignation is effective from 4 August 2004.
