Turning Twenty - Wrightson Ihc Calf Scheme

In the last 20 years more than 65,000 calves have been donated to IHC by the rural community of New Zealand, raising a total of more than $15 million in support of people living with an intellectual disability.

“The Wrightson IHC Calf Scheme is a great success story,” says Colin Meads, Patron of the Calf Scheme and one of its founders 20 years ago.

“It makes me proud to be a farmer when I see what we have managed to achieve over the years and how this money has helped the work of IHC.”

“Last year more than 5,000 farmers from all over the country donated, raising a total of $1.2 million for IHC. That is about a third of all dairy farms donating a calf to IHC. I think that is a great result, but it also means there are about 10,000 farmers who have either not heard about the Wrightson IHC Calf Scheme or may just need a gentle reminder,” said Colin Meads.

“Many farmers have been donating a calf each year for 20 years. It’s a painless way to make a donation to such a worthwhile cause, IHC deal with all the logistics, and when you look at the combined results across New Zealand you see how worthwhile it is.”

Colin Meads said that Wrightson’s generous sponsorship and general support for this unique initiative also meant that the dollars raised from this scheme go directly to support people living with an intellectual disability.
