Sky Television Announces New International News Programming

SKY Television confirmed today that Athens Olympics news coverage, Holmes and world-class ABC news and current affairs programmes will premiere on SKY News in August 2004.

SKY News Australia New Zealand has just completed negotiations to become an affiliate of ABC America, bringing some of the world's most successful television news programmes to New Zealand.

From August, SKY News will screen more ABC programming, including 20/20, and ABC Nightline with Ted Koppel.

The new relationship means SKY News can use the full range of ABC news and current affairs programmes, as well as ABC raw feeds, breaking news coverage and the worldwide network of ABC news bureaus and correspondents.

It adds to what is already a prestigious line-up of international partners that includes BskyB, CBS, Reuters, APTN, Bloomberg and Star TV as well as Australia's Nine and Seven Networks.

SKY Television Chief Executive Officer John Fellet says: "We are pleased to be able to offer news viewers a more comprehensive range of international news programming, which further strengthens the content of the SKY News channel."

The new ABC programming is one of several new additions to SKY News in August. Athens coverage SKY News Australia New Zealand is committed to providing coverage of the Athens games, which start on August 13.

The SKY News team of John Mangos and Murray Shaw will provide an unrivalled news and results service LIVE from Athens.

Holmes New Zealand current affairs programme Holmes also makes its premiere on SKY News in August.

Every week SKY News will feature the big stories and issues from the programme that has become a New Zealand institution.
