Air New Zealand’s World Leading PeopleSoft Solution Honoured in Washington, D.C.
Airline finalist in global technology awards
Air New Zealand’s enterprise application software programme Connect, comprising PeopleSoft® Enterprise Financials, Procurement and Route Profitability solutions, recently received international recognition by becoming a finalist in the 2004 Global Computerworld Honors Awards. Air New Zealand’s Connect programme was the only New Zealand nominee to qualify as a finalist for the 2004 awards. All 56 finalists in 10 categories were honoured on June 7th, at a black-tie gala at Washington, D.C.
The panel of distinguished judges selected finalists on the basis of benefit to society, importance of information technology, originality, success and difficulty. Being nominated as a finalist is an endorsement of Air New Zealand as a leader of innovation in the airline industry, using technology to facilitate strategic change and decision-making.
New Business Model
In a fiercely competitive and complex industry, recent international concerns triggered the airline to challenge its business model. Air New Zealand needed to be more responsive and adaptable to prosper in a dynamic and challenging operating environment by expanding services and flying new routes to service customers better. The Route Profitability implementation has assisted this change by providing greater visibility of financial and operational data in a more timely manner.
Consolidation
Prior to Connect, Air New Zealand could not easily bring together a common view of Route Profitability. Now, over 20 million rows of complex revenue and cost data are analysed each month and turned into meaningful and reliable flight, product and channel information. The airline now benefits from ‘a single version of the truth’ and is able to pull together many pieces of data and information to provide different types of analyses. Air New Zealand is leading the aviation industry worldwide as it transforms the way it uses transactional data to enable better decision making at the highest level of the organisation.
About The Computerworld Honors Awards
The Computerworld Honors Program brings together the Chairmen or Chief Executive Officers of the one hundred foremost information technology companies in the world to help the world’s leading universities, libraries and research institutions document a revolution in progress, the global information technology revolution. Nominations closed in October 2003. Presented on an annual basis to men and women whose visionary use of information technology has contributed significantly to the improvement of society, The Computerworld Honors communicate, on an ongoing and highly visible basis, the achievements of these pioneers who have used technology for the benefit of mankind.
From the laureates in each of 10 categories, a panel of judges selects five to become Worldwide Finalists. In June, in Washington, D.C., the Chairmen’s Committee presented ten 21st-Century Achievement Awards to the organisations selected by the judges as first among their peers. Included in the 2004 Computerworld collection are case studies originating from 24 countries, ranging from Australia to Great Britain, and include notable entries from New Zealand, China, Nigeria and Portugal.
In addition to Air New Zealand’s Connect programme, the finalists’ ceremony in Washington D.C. acknowledged 55 other projects from around the globe. The Connect case study is available online at: https://secure.cwheroes.org/briefingroom_2004/pdf_frame/index.asp?id=5081
