Wintergarden Pavilion Launches Heart-Warming New Winter Menu
- and there’s something for everyone, including dogs!
The Wintergarden Pavilion - one of Auckland’s historic teahouses, situated in the picturesque Domain - has launched its new ‘comfort food’ winter menu.
Owned by David and Harbans Williams of The Relish Group for the past 13 years, the Wintergarden Pavilion has been serving delicious food to the people of Auckland since it opened in 1914.
Gone are the days of just a simple cup of tea on offer.
The new menu prepared by chef Nick Holland (ex-Ottos) is packed with delectable morsels, ranging from take-out light snacks to hearty, cockle-warming, sit-down favourites, satisfying any type of hunger or thirst at any time of day.
Breakfast and brunch offerings include an Autumn fruit stack with vanilla honey or sweetcorn fritters with roast tomato and bacon.
Hot gourmet comfort lunch food favourites include menu stalwarts such as Côq au Vin, Duck Cassoulet and Boeuf Bourguinon, both served with garlic mash, and olde-style homemade pies with fillings of a contemporary nature such as smoked marlin, or chicken leek and mustard.
Sandwiches too take on a twist and include beef fillet and caramelised onion baguettes with grain mustard, and pastrami and sauerkraut on rye with pickled onion and pesto.
Lighter meals include combo salad options such as the Classic Caesar or grilled market fish on niçiose salad with salsa verde. And there’s a wide selection of cakes and desserts to satisfy the sweet of tooth.
Harbans Williams says there is something for everyone on the new menu.
“Whether popping in for a light morning or afternoon tea, a takeaway espresso, a hearty mid-winter lunch with a client, or during a walk through the park with one’s dog, we invite all Aucklanders to come along to try our new menu for themselves.
“We’ll even cater to your dog, with fresh water bowls supplied!” she adds.
The beautifully refurbished Pavilion encompasses three distinct eating areas – an outside area overlooking a grassy lawn; an open deck covered with an awning that overlooks Auckland’s best-known duck pond - lending itself to hours of tranquil contemplation; and a larger indoor celebration room complete with log fire, perfect for special gatherings – such as weddings or cocktail functions.
The Wintergarden Pavilion is open from 10 am to 3 pm seven days, with the ‘celebration room’ available on request.
