Ag Art Wear® celebrates a decade at Fieldays
Fieldays Ag Art Wear® competition is celebrating its 10th year at Fieldays and is calling for all budding designers who would like expose their creative flair and win some amazing prizes.
Fieldays General Manager Barry Quayle says Ag Art Wear is a prestigious nation-wide competition that platforms many designers into their career.
“It also enables up-and-coming designers to challenge traditional design elements and expose their creative abilities,” Mr Quayle said.
And Fieldays competitions coordinator Kate McGowan is looking forward to receiving entries – literally from the back shed.
“It is that time of year when creative-minded people raid their rural back sheds for items like No8 wire, bailing twine or corrugated iron - and whip together a piece of farm art for the body,” Miss McGowan said.
2) “Taking every-day farm materials and transforming them into outfits for the runway results in a visual spectacle for the audience at Fieldays to enjoy.”
The competition consists of three different categories; Landcare, Avant Garde and Under 21. The combination of the three categories provides designers with a freedom to use materials of an agricultural, floricultural or horticultural nature. The Landcare section restricts the designer to use non processed materials, straight off the land.
Miss McGowan says designers should think of their garment as a piece of art for the body challenging conventional garment designs.
“The Judging panel will be looking for unique, creative garments that make an impact on the catwalk,” she says.
“Over the past decade, the fashion shows displaying the Ag Art Wear entries have become a popular crowd attraction at Fieldays, with audiences amazed by the pure creativity of the garments.”
Each garment is modelled by a professional model in fully choreographed shows over the four days of the event. The competition is proudly sponsored by Bary Knitting Mills, Bernina and the NZ Landcare Trust and supported by Snapshot.
3) All interested designers should start thinking about their creations today in time for the 16-19 June Fieldays.
