EPMU Responds To Roger Sowry Misrepresentation
March 17, 2004
Statement from the NZ Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union
A statement released today by the National Party’s industrial relations spokesman, Roger Sowry, incorrectly states the position of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union in the Metals and Manufacturing Industries Collective Agreement dispute.
Mr Sowry said that in newspaper advertisements today, the union had neglected to say that it was claiming a 37 1/2-hour week and a five per cent pay rise.
During the course of negotiations, the union reduced its pay claim and dropped many other claims, including that for a shorter working.
The only claims the union has on the table are:
- A 3.5 per cent pay rise.
- The inclusion of
workers in workplace health and safety planning.
- The
removal of the requirement to get a medical certificate for
one day’s sick
leave.
