Vineyards Hooked Up To Jetstream

Long-established vineyards along Marlborough’s Jacksons and Rapaura Roads have installed Telecom’s broadband service JetStream to help take their award winning wines to the world.
Allan Scott from Allan Scott Wines & Estates says access to JetStream could enhance their client communications and reputation in the domestic and international market.
Allan Scott Wines & Estates is approximately eight kilometres from the closest settlement, Renwick, and was initially too far from areas where broadband is available.
However, with the help of new broadband technology, Telecom was able to enhance coverage in Marlborough’s wine country.
“We approached Telecom to see if the JetStream service could be extended into our area and once they realized other vineyards were interested, they set it up as quickly as possible,” Allan Scott says.
"JetStream will make communications stress-free and cost effective, and its ideal for wineries around here that have a growing international client base.”
JetStream has download speeds up to 50 times faster than a standard dial-up connection which makes using the Internet more efficient. Because it is an always-on Internet connection, users don’t need to dial-up every time they want to go online, and they can talk on the phone or use a fax at the same time.
The JetStream upgrade was installed last December with the help of new technology, known as mini DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplex). It is housed in Telecom’s roadside cabinets, enabling the company to extend its fast-Internet service.
Telecom Manager for Rural Investment Stuart Smith says mini DSLAM technology allows Telecom to react quickly to demand for JetStream in rural areas.
“We take the telecommunications needs of our rural customers very seriously, and we’re pleased to be able to support business and growth in Marlborough.
“Extending fast Internet services in rural New Zealand is a major priority for Telecom. Our plans are to provide coverage to about 95 per cent of New Zealanders by June next year, which will mean a substantial investment in the rural network.
“The new technology makes JetStream upgrades to
the network more viable for smaller groups of customers so
is an important part of our plans for rural areas.”
