Stressed Payroll Staff Can Win Weekend Off
Payroll officers are being invited to take a break from the new Holidays Act administration hassles by a sympathetic payroll company. Comacc is offering mystery weekends to the three most-nominated payroll officers around the country.
Managing Director Steve Nathan says the implications of the new Act (which comes into effect on April 1) are huge, and he believes payroll officers will deserve a break as the new Act will certainly increase their workloads.
"Not all employers appreciate the new level of reporting the Holidays Act requires," he says. "Payroll officers will be keeping more detailed records than ever before and this will have a definite impact on their workloads." He is predicting a serious shortage of skilled payroll staff, as many will get fed up and leave the industry.
"For those working with outdated systems, administering payroll is set to become a total nightmare," he says. "The nation's workforce will not stand for incorrect wage payments and the beleaguered payroll officer is the frontline person taking the flack."
His company has worked hard to ensure its payroll products are up to handling the changes, so staff operating Comacc systems will not feel the stress to the same extent.
"Companies that value their payroll staff can nominate them for a mystery weekend, by going to www.comacc.co.nz Payroll people can be nominated as many times as they like and can even nominate themselves." The winner will be drawn on April 15th.
New Holidays Act comes into force by 1 April 2004 and it's no joke.
This is a serious law change. Do you understand how the changes will impact on your business. Have you checked your payroll will cope. (Of course all Comacc clients will receive their usual upgrades in plenty of time).
We have produced a simple guide to help you assess if your payroll will cope with the changes. You can download it FREE at www.comacc.co.nz. You can also have your say on the act in the NEW Holidays Act 2003 section of www.payrollforum.com.
