SIA Receives Prestigious Passenger
Service Award
From Air Transport World Magazine
Editors of the US-based Air Transport World magazine have awarded Singapore Airlines (SIA) its prestigious Passenger Service Award for 2004. Mr Yap Kim Wah, SIA’s Senior Vice President (Product and Services) received the award at the Gala Awards Dinner held in Singapore last night.
“In an age in which airlines are delivering less and less service, SIA never stops reaching for the skies, always on the lookout for new ways to satisfy its customers,“ said the magazine’s editors when the award was announced.
They added: “In its 32 years of existence as an independent company, SIA progressively has raised the bar in all areas of customer service and has been especially proactive in driving forward higher standards for inflight entertainment systems and connectivity”.
Said Mr Yap : “This is certainly a very special month for SIA. A few weeks ago, we entered the record books by launching the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight – 18½ hours from Los Angeles to Singapore -- and tonight we are being presented with this wonderful award. We know Air Transport World awards are not easily won, so I am very proud to receive it on behalf of SIA this evening.”
Meanwhile, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has announced that SIA has won the 2004 PATA Gold Award in the Carrier (International – Air) category. SIA was selected for its Fabulous Offer campaign, a global initiative to revive air travel to Singapore after the outbreak of SARS had been brought under control. The basic package comprised two-night stays at over 50 of Singapore’s leading hotels, a choice of admission to top attractions such as The Night Safari and Sentosa, complimentary airport transfers and the use of the SIA Hop-on bus, a SIA trolley service that brings visitors to the major sights in and around the city.
