Caltex and Freightlines team up on relief drive

Caltex and Freightlines team up on relief drive for Manawatu farmers

Wellington – Caltex and Freightlines are working together to cart bales of silage donated by farmers from Otorohanga, Northern King Country and Maihihi regions to flooded Manawatu farmers.

Caltex public & government affairs manager Niall Kramer says the initiative came from Otorohanga-based Freightlines managing director Peter Barker. “Peter asked if we’d be able to assist in a flood relief effort. We’re happy to be able to play a small role and provide the fuel for the Freightlines trucks which will be carting the silage. This is a team effort in which many are playing our community-focused role.”

Donations will be co-ordinated from local farmers and Freightlines drivers will be donating their time to drive the trucks to the Manawatu.

“It’s an outstanding effort from the Otorohanga area and Freightlines and we’re extremely pleased to have had the opportunity to partner with them in this initiative,” says Niall Kramer.

He says the trucks will be driving down from the King Country to the Manawatu over the next two to three weekends, and that they are aiming to cart a total of 15 truckloads of silage to provide flood-hit farmers with feed for their stock. - END -
