Gas supplies to Hawke's Bay to resume

Gas supplies to Hawke's Bay to resume

Marathon efforts result in temporary resumption of Hawke’s Bay natural gas supplies

Natural gas supplies to the Hawke’s Bay and northern Tararua districts have been temporarily restored following re-pressurisation of the gas pipeline in the Manawatu.

Gas Association chairman, Trevor Goodwin, said customers who have had their gas turned off during the emergency will be reconnected as instructed by their retailers.

He said gas consumers must wait for their retailers to contact them regarding reconnection to the network.

"Gas supplies are still precarious and resumption must be staggered to avoid a sudden draw-off of gas. This could cause further serious problems," he said.

"Customers are reminded that this is a temporary resumption of supplies, and the pipeline is still under threat from further adverse weather events until a diversion to the pipeline is installed and commissioned within around ten days.

"While supplies have resumed, we urge consumers to continue their efforts to conserve gas until this emergency is over," he concluded.
