Richina Appoints New Director
Statement made by Richard Yan, Acting Chairman, Richina Pacific Limited
Prominent New York based banking and corporate lawyer, John L. Walker, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Richina Pacific Limited, effective 1 January 2004.
Mr Richard Yan, Acting Chairman of Richina Pacific, had indicated the intention to make this appointment at the recent Special Meeting of Shareholders which overwhelmingly supported the proposal to move the Company’s registration from New Zealand to Bermuda. The Company’s new registration became effective on 23 December 2003. Richina Pacific remains listed on NZX.
Richina Pacific, which is in the process of relocating its head office to Singapore, have investments in the property and construction activities of Mainzeal in New Zealand, in Blue Zoo Aquarium in Beijing, and in Shanghai Richina Leather (SRL) in China, where Richina Pacific is increasingly focused.
Mr Walker, who has an extensive background in banking law, particularly in commercial, investment and merchant banking, is a senior partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. He has been recognized in numerous publications as one of the world’s leading banking lawyers. He holds a B.A. from Duke University and a J.D. from Duke Law School. Early in his career he was a lawyer in the U.S. Federal Reserve System. He is a Director and President of the Financial Services Volunteer Corps, a not-for-profit organization that channels expertise of financial sector professionals to strengthen the financial infrastructure in transition and developing countries.
Mr Walker is a member of the “Council on Foreign Relations”, a USA based independent non-partisan organization dedicated to understanding and development of USA foreign policies and choices.
