Honda Gears Up for Outboard Drive
Caspex Corporation Ltd has established a separate division to market Honda Outboard motors in New Zealand.
Previously the outboards came under the banner of Power & Marine Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caspex which holds the New Zealand license for Honda motorcycles and engines.
Honda Marine is moving out of the Power & Marine premises at Westhaven and will be established in new premises at Greenlane.
The newly appointed General Manager of Honda Marine, Martin Wylie, says the restructure signals an aggressive new marketing strategy for Honda Outboards in New Zealand.
"Honda Outboards face an exciting future in New Zealand as the market here follows the United States and Europe where legislative requirements on pollution and environmental friendliness have brought an end to traditional 2-stroke outboards," he says. "My guess is that in five to 10 years there won't be any 2-strokes being made any more and Honda Marine, with more than 60 different models in 18 different horsepower categories, has the largest and most comprehensive range of 4-stroke outboards available in New Zealand."
As part of its marketing campaign and partly assisted by the strength of the New Zealand dollar, prices for all Honda Outboards have been reduced - some by as much as $700 - to ensure that they are the best priced high-performance 4-stroke outboards available.
As well, Honda Marine has introduced a new five year, unlimited hours, recreational warranty, the longest and most comprehensive warranty available in New Zealand and more than double the industry standard.
David Smith, who was Product Manager of Honda Outboards for Power & Marine Ltd becomes Technical Manager for Honda Marine. A new Customer Services Manager and a new Dealer Manager will be appointed to the division shortly.
