Pacific Blue Welcomes 'Aboard' New Manager

Pacific Blue Airlines has announced the appointment of another key team member, with Jo Wedlock stepping up to take on the role as the New Zealand based carrier’s Promotions and PR Manager.

Jo will start with the Christchurch based airline on January 5 and among one of the first tasks will be to join the Pacific Blue team as it gears up for the historic launch flight, which takes off on January 29 2004.

“I’m a proud Kiwi with a huge passion for promoting our country and can’t wait to get started with Pacific Blue. I’m excited to be working for an airline that will open up air travel to so many people and in a way that New Zealanders have never seen before,” she said.

Tony Marks, CEO of Pacific Blue said, “Jo really caught our eye when she helped co-ordinate Richard Branson’s recent visit to Christchurch and we were really impressed with her organisation, energy and ability to be flexible under ever-changing circumstances.”

He added, “We are building a small team of exceptional people and are delighted Jo is joining us. I’m sure she’ll fit right into the vibrancy, pace and demands of Australasia’s newest and most exciting international airline.”

He added, “Pacific Blue will create benefits for all Guests by providing them with great value air travel as well as the unique and friendly Virgin service.”

Jo brings to the role her previous experience with Christchurch & Canterbury Marketing as Australian and New Zealand Marketing Manager.

With an extensive background in marketing, communications and advertising, this won’t be the first time that she has been involved with a launch of a major tourism product in New Zealand. In 2000 she was employed by Sky City New Zealand to launch and manage the marketing and communications for the Sky Alpine Casino in Queenstown, an experience that has left her excited to kick off Pacific Blue.

“Being involved in a company from day one is an amazing experience. It gives you both a sense of ownership and satisfaction that most people don’t get from their jobs. Standing on the tarmac and waving off that first flight… that’s something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” she finished.

Jo’s appointment takes the number of Pacific Blue team members to 75, which will grow to over 200 by the time the first aircraft takes off.

Pacific Blue’s first flight is schedule for January 29th flying return flights from Christchurch to Brisbane, with services to Melbourne scheduled to begin in early March.
