Vehicle registrations up 17.5 percent for October

Vehicle registrations for October were up 17.5 percent on last year, according to figures from the Land Transport Safety Authority.

There were 27,543 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this October, compared with 23,446 in October 2002.

Total first-time car registrations were up 17.5 percent, from 17,714 in October 2002 to 20,813 last month. New car registrations were up 10.5 percent, from 6,724 to 7,433, while used import registrations jumped 21.7 percent from 10,990 to 13,380.

The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Toyota with 17.8 percent, ahead of Holden with 17.3 percent, Mitsubishi with 14.6 percent and Ford with 12.9 percent.

The three most popular new car models for the month were the Ford Falcon, Mitsubishi Lancer and Toyota Corolla.

Truck registrations were up 24.7 percent, from 2,366 in October 2002 to 2,950 last month. Trailer registrations rose 15.2 percent, from 1,970 to 2,269 while motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) rose from 426 to 448. Tractor registrations fell from 388 to 375, while bus registrations were up from 99 to 103.
