Telecom Hosts International Roaming Meeting
TELECOM HOSTS INTERNATIONAL ROAMING MEETING
Representatives from some of the world's biggest mobile phone companies have gathered in New Zealand this week to swap ideas and discuss one of the industry's hottest topics, international roaming.
The gathering is being hosted by Telecom New Zealand and Qualcomm. Telecom General Manager of Networks Investment Stephen Crombie says it's a great opportunity for New Zealand.
"The representatives, including Telecom, are all users of CDMA mobile phone technology," he said.
"CDMA is now used by nearly 150 million subscribers across Asia and the Pacific, North and South America, Europe and growing parts of the Middle East and Africa.
"At the CDMA Development Group meeting in Queenstown today and tomorrow we'll be talking about the development of international standards, service development, extension of roaming agreements and strategy.
"This meeting will give us a chance to hear from the leaders in CDMA technology and to showcase what New Zealand has to offer," Stephen Crombie said.
Among those attending are representatives from Qualcomm, Lucent, KDDI, SK Telecom, Telstra, China Unicom, Mobile 8, Telecom Malaysia, Hutchison, the Communications Authority of Thailand, Verizon, Reliance, SLD Telecom, Hanoi Telecom and Sprint.
