The six finalists in this year’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards have more in common than just business success – they’ve all had to overcome extraordinary odds to get to the top.

Whether it was personal injury or professional crisis, a key feature of this year’s finalists was their strength in the face of adversity, said Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Director, Carol Campbell.

“That common theme says so much about the Kiwi entrepreneurial spirit – these people didn’t take the knocks lying down. They got back up and fought on until they won.

“Our six finalists this year are a real inspiration. All have incredible depth and character and have taken risks most people wouldn’t dream of doing,” Campbell said.

“Their special qualities have built strong, sustainable, innovative and dynamic business ventures as they have developed new technologies, created faster and better ways to distribute goods and services, and improved the quality of life for people around them.”

The category winners for the awards – now in their sixth year in New Zealand - are:

The overall winner of the 2003 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year will be announced in Auckland on October 8.
