Coffee Culture extends growing cafe chain

Coffee Culture extends growing cafe chain

Coffee Culture will open its fifth coffee café at the new entertainment arena in The Palms Shopping Centre in Christchurch next Wednesday, September 10.

The leading South Island chain established its flagship café in Sumner, Christchurch in 1995, and has since opened cafes in Cashel Mall (Christchurch), Dunedin and Cashmere (Christchurch).

With demand for coffee shops increasing, Coffee Culture has franchised its operations, general manager Chris Houston said today.

“Coffee Culture at the Palms is an exciting step forward for us. We’ve introduced some exciting new design features on top of all the features our loyal customers have come to expect from Coffee Culture. We’ve been able to include a children’s area that will enable parents to enjoy a cup of coffee while watching their little ones.”

As one of the founders of Coffee Culture, Mr Houston has been involved in the development of the chain.

“We roast our own unique blend of coffee every day and invest a lot of time in training our team to deliver great coffee and great service. Some larger chain stores import their roasted coffee and it just doesn’t taste the same.”

The franchisee at the Palms, Murray Walsh, has been a successful retailer and relishes the opportunity to bring great coffee to the Mall. “Coffee Culture at the Palms will become a place of refuge for worn out shoppers,” he said.

Another Coffee Culture franchise store will open later in the year in Merivale, on the corner of Christchurch’s Papanui and Leinster Road.

Coffee has become an institution in New Zealand. Coffee bars first appeared in the 1950’s and Kiwi café culture took off in the 1980’s. Today New Zealanders drink three cups of coffee for every cup of tea according to research.
