Scholarships Offered to Business Owner-Managers

Scholarships Offered to Business Owner-Managers in Wellington Region

The New Zealand College of Management, in association with Positively Wellington Business, is offering four scholarships to owner-managers of small- to medium sized companies based in the Wellington region.

Owner-managers of companies based in Wellington city, the Hutt Valley, Porirua and on the Kapiti coast are all eligible to enter. Eligible companies must employ 50 or less staff and work in the Information Communications Technology Industry (ICT), Creative Industries, Professional Services or Specialist/Niche Manufacturing sectors.

“Building business skills of owner-managers of small to medium sized businesses is a key growth strategy for the region,” says Chris Lipscombe, Acting CEO, Positively Wellington Business. “It is through developing the skills of these owner-managers that these smaller companies can grow and become the medium to large companies of the future.”

“We’re looking for owner-managers that have a passion for success. They will need to have a significant equity stake in their current business, management control, revenue between $2 million to $50 million per annum, and a desire to look at their business in a fresh light with a view to growing it significantly.”

Research shows that many small businesses would expand faster and more successfully if they had access to advice and training.

The four successful candidates will be granted scholarships worth $2,975 plus GST each, which covers half of the individual’s fee of $5,950 plus GST to attend the NZ College of Management Small/Medium Sized Enterprise Forum 2003. The NZ College of Management SME Forum is an intensive two-part residential programme being held on 16-18 October and 27-29 November at Margrain Vineyard, Martinborough.
