New Zealand Franchise Awards, 2003
The Franchise Association of New Zealand Chairman, Simon Lord, says the Association has received a record number of entries for this year’s New Zealand Franchise Awards, with entrants from all over the country.
“We have entrants from Auckland, New Plymouth, Hastings, Rotorua, Tauranga, Porirua, Hamilton, Taupo, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill.”
“We are pleased to see some new franchise systems and new geographical regions represented in the Awards entries this year. It shows the growing depth of franchising as a successful business model in New Zealand, ” he says.
Simon Lord says the Franchise Awards are the premier franchising event of the year, celebrating excellence in franchising. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Saturday 1 November at the Hyatt Auckland Hotel.
“The Awards recognise and celebrate the high performers in franchising, which is now a $10.4 billion turnover industry. There are over 14,000 franchised outlets in New Zealand, employing around 70,000 people,” he says.
Three new award categories have been added this year: best Franchise Exporter, best Brand Communication and best First Time Entrant.
Simon Lord says franchising as a business model is going from strength to strength.
“New
business start-ups under a franchise system have a 94%
success rate in the first three years. When you compare
this to traditional new business start-ups, which surveys
show have a survival rate of only 33% for the first five
years, it is not hard to see why franchising as a business
model is experiencing such huge growth,” he said.
