300 SUBMISSIONS RECEIVED ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO TREATED TIMBER (B2) AND EXTERNAL MOISTURE MANAGEMENT (E2) REQUIREMENTS
Over 300 submissions have been received on the Building Industry Authority’s proposed changes to requirements for the
use of treated timber and on external moisture management.
Building Industry Authority (BIA) staff and expert working groups, convened to advise the BIA on the issues, are
reviewing these submissions. The working group members were drawn from a cross section of interested parties.
“Authority members have undertaken to read all of the submissions received plus all other material provided, before
meeting to consider the broader issues and making their final decisions”, BIA Chairman Barry Brown said.
“We are very pleased with the number of submissions we have received. They will be a useful input to the final
decisions”, Mr. Brown added.
Updates of the existing Cost Benefit Analysis and Regulatory Impact Statements will also be prepared and will inform the
Authority’s decisions.
The Authority is aiming to make final decisions before the end of the year. The exact timing of the decisions will
depend on the extent and nature of the comments contained in the submissions received.
The BIA will make available, via its website, a summary of the submissions received and any updated Cost Benefit
Analysis or Regulatory Impact Statements following announcement of the final decisions.
The final changes will be contained in Building Code clause E2 and approved documents E2/AS1, E2/VM1 and B2/AS1.
