Clearance application from Bungy NZ

Commission receives clearance application from Bungy New Zealand Limited

The Commerce Commission has received an application from Bungy New Zealand Limited to acquire the Pipeline Bungy business operating in Skippers Canyon, Queenstown.

Pipeline Bungy is currently owned and operated by a joint venture between Ngai Tahu Tourism Limited and Skippers Canyon Jet Limited. The proposed purchase is conditional on Ngai Tahu Tourism acquiring 100% of the Pipeline Bungy business from Skippers Canyon Jet.

Ngai Tahu Tourism and Skippers Canyon Jet provide several adventure tourism activities including; bungy jumping, jet boating and scenic trips by four-wheel drive. The acquisition relates only to the bungy segment of their business activities.

Bungy New Zealand acts as the parent and holding company for the AJ Hackett Bungy brand and operates in the adventure tourism market, specialising in bungy jumping activities in the Central Otago and Auckland regions.

In considering the application, the Commission’s role is to determine whether the merger has the effect of substantially lessening competition in a market.

A public version of Bungy New Zealand’s application will shortly be available on the Commission’s website under Adjudication.
