Phoenix Organics founder joins organic certification
organisation
Managing Director of Phoenix Organics Chris Morrison says he believes maintaining high quality standards and strict quality assurance are critical to building the integrity of the organics industry in New Zealand.
Mr Morrison is one of four new directors appointed to the Board of BioGro, the country’s leading certifier of organic products.
Mr Morrison is also the chairman of the Sustainable Business Network and the Rodney District and Waitakere District Organic Cluster, and is one of the founders of Phoenix Organics makers of a range of organic and natural soft drinks, fruit juices and preserves.
BioGro is an organisation set up in 1983 to certify organic producers and manufacturers.
Mr Morrison said that Phoenix certified its organic products using the BioGro assurance because the company set high standards and had a philosophical commitment to quality organic products.
‘BioGro certification is to organic products what the heart tick is to consumers worried about heart disease or cholesterol,’ said Mr Morrison. ‘It’s a certification consumers can trust.’
He said that as demand for organic products grew, it was critical that consumers were able to trust the integrity and quality of product making these claims. Certification from credible sources like BioGro was a key to building consumer trust and ensuring organic products delivered what they promised.
Mr Morrison said that he was delighted to be invited to serve on the BioGro board, saying the offer was made because of his experience with Small to Medium Enterprises as well as his knowledge of organics manufacturing and distribution.
