Holden’s First Ever Commodore SS Wagon Expected To Go Quickly
The most powerful production wagon in Holden’s history and the first to wear the SS high-performance badge is expected to sell quickly when the first units arrive in New Zealand showrooms at the end of the month.
Like its Commodore SS sedan and Ute stablemates, the special edition wagon offers great style, safety technology and a high level of equipment, while Control-Link independent rear suspension enhances the load carrier’s stability, handling precision and control.
Of the 560 examples of this exclusive 5.7 litre, High Output 235kW GEN III alloy V8-powered SS wagon expected to be produced at Holden’s South Australian facility, just 60 will cross to this side of the Tasman - 48 being mated to an electronically controlled four-speed automatic, 12 receiving a six-speed manual transmission.
Externally, the vehicle is distinguished by signature features like five spoke 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 235/45 R17 low-profile tyres, a sports front facia with slimmer grille, twin circular front fog lamps, head lamps with black bezel backgrounds, front sculptured rocker mouldings and SS badging on the vehicle’s flanks and tailgate.
A versatile roof rack is included in the package - and so is the V8 ‘burble’ that comes courtesy of a specially tuned, full-length twin exhaust system. Complementing the wagon’s V8 performance potential are FE2 sports suspension, limited slip differential and traction control. It also has ABS.
Two exterior paint colours are offered - Redhot teamed with Anthracite black leather interior trim and Phantom Black which sports red leather trim.
Inside, the SS style story continues with colour-keyed leather trim on the front sports and rear SS seats being complemented by a leather-wrapped steering wheel, alloy pedals and a red instrument cluster.
Further standard equipment highlights include driver and front passenger airbags, front side impact airbags, a six-disc in-dash CD player, power windows front and rear, cruise control, air conditioning and a retracting roller blind that keeps cargo out of direct sun and out of sight.
Whether with automatic or manual transmission, the VY Series Commodore SS wagon has a recommended retail price (inclusive of GST but exclusive of any on-road costs or possible accessories) of $66,800.
Like all Holden passenger cars, sport-utility/recreational four-wheel/all-wheel drive and light commercial vehicles, the smartly styled Commodore SS wagon is covered by a three-year, 100,000 kilometres warranty - whichever occurs first. Normal service intervals - following the first inspection at 1500 kms, are at every six months or 10,000 kilometres but in accordance with the service booklet that accompanies the vehicle.
The wagon’s braked towing capacity - with Holden approved equipment and also in accordance with the Owners Handbook - is 2,100 kilograms. Designed to operate on unleaded petrol - 91 octane rating or higher, the vehicle’s fuel tank capacity is 75 litres.
The Commodore SS wagon also comes with ‘Holden Advantage,’ a motoring assurance package delivered through the collective resources of Holden Dealers and the New Zealand Automobile Association and which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Benefits, which apply to the vehicle rather than driver and are thus transferred on resale, are a breakdown and recovery service and where applicable, an overnight accommodation and/or alternative transport plan - all in accordance with the formal document that accompanies the vehicle. The service is accessed through the toll free number 0800 HOLDEN.
