New Zealand log export partnership is named

Joint Release With
FERRIER HODGSON

30 May 2003

New Zealand log export partnership is named

The new log exporting company formed recently as a joint venture between Carter Holt Harvey Forests and the Central North Island Forest Partnership (CNIFP) Receiver, Ferrier Hodgson will be known as Silva Forest Products Limited.

Silva derives from the Latin meaning ‘wood’, ‘forest’ or ‘plantation’. The key ‘New Zealand’ element of the identity is Silva’s association with the Silver Fern.

Announcing the name, Silva chief executive officer John Palmer said, “We believe that ‘Silva’ perfectly captures the nature of our business and conveys its origins in sustainable New Zealand forest plantations”.

Commencement of business
The company will begin trading on 1 July 2003 and the first shipment carrying the new Silva brand is expected in late August/early September.

From 1 September 2003, the entire export log production of Carter Holt Harvey and CNIFP — about half of the New Zealand log exports — will be sold through Silva.

“The primary objective of the new enterprise is to provide enhanced reliability of supply and quality of service for customers whilst also facilitating operational efficiencies for the joint venture partners,” said Mr Palmer.
