Mercury Energy first out of the blocks

Mercury Energy first out of the blocks

Heather Staley Chief Executive of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has congratulated Mercury Energy for their 'Beat Your Bill' customer incentive scheme.

Mercury Energy has doubled the incentive offered to customers in 2001 and is the first retailer to offer a savings incentive scheme this winter.

"With the current supply situation we all need to do our bit to save electricity and the earlier we can get people to make the savings the better.

"Of course every New Zealand home or business that saves electricity for winter also saves money on their power bill. Offering a cash incentive to customers on top of this will help get the response we need to avert more serious measures," says Ms Staley.

Ms Staley said people should also be thinking about long-term savings measures that will reduce their power bill year round, not just when we have a supply situation.

"Doing things such as installing energy efficient lightbulbs, insulating old (warm to touch) hot water cylinders and draught stopping around windows and doors make a long term difference to a home's power bill."

Information on long term energy savings measures can be found on http://www.energywise.org.nz and a business advice service has been set up to answer detailed questions from businesses - businesses can email mailto:advice@energywise.org.nz with questions.

EECA is assisting the electricity industry with its Target10% campaign by providing technical advice and support.
