Births Deaths And Marriages Processing Contract Re-Awarded To Datamail
A three-year contract relating to data-capture and cash receipting of the nation’s birth, death and marriage (BDM)
registrations has been awarded to Datamail, the New Zealand Post owned integrated document solutions provider.
Datamail was among a number invited to pitch late last year for the Department of Internal Affairs contract, and had
been the incumbent outsourcing solutions provider since January 1998.
Datamail’s data capture and cash-receipting solution involves the processing of all current birth, death and marriage
registrations (and related payments) from midwives, hospitals, funeral directors and registrars around the country. The
process involves an average of 14,000 ‘events’ a month and has been audited for design and accuracy by internal and
external auditors, both of whom gave positive endorsement.
Says Steve Roughan, Datamail’s Key Account Manager, “We are delighted to continue what has been a highly successful
relationship. It began four years ago with a six-week timeline in which to go live with a fully intelligent data capture
and cash receipting solution, (two weeks of which included the Christmas and New Year period) and has continued with
many efficiency gaining modifications”.

this contract enables BDM to focus its attention on maintaining a quality registration service. Datamail was chosen from
a group of quality providers. We value the ongoing relationship with Datamail”.
Currently under discussion is the potential future supply of the scanned images resulting from registrations to BDM.

images of registrations would help us improve on the current system of sourcing physical documents for reference.”
