Automobile Association Encourages Motorists To Keep Their Tanks Full
With regular and almost weekly price increases in petrol as the threat of conflict looms closer, the Automobile Association today encouraged motorists to keep their tanks full amid the possibility of further increases in petrol prices over the next few weeks. Retailers have attributed these price rises to growing tensions in the Middle East and the subsequent rapid increase in the world price for crude oil.
AA Petrol Watch has observed that as of Friday 14 February, the average price across the country for 91 Octane was 115.9 cents per litre and 96 Octane was selling for around 120.9 cents per litre. The average price of diesel was 75.9 cents per litre across the country.
“Given that petrol retailers have signalled that there may be further price increases, we are encouraging motorists to keep their tanks full to avoid incurring greater costs than are necessary” AA Director of Public Affairs, George Fairbairn said today.
The Association also advised motorists to specifically take note of the petrol prices being shown in their local areas, and to look around for the best deals. It noted that often the prices for 96 Octane are not displayed outside retail outlets alongside 91 Octane prices.
“While the Association acknowledges that petrol retailers are being exposed to increasing world oil prices, the confidence of the motoring public could be lost if they seek to raise prices and margins on a weekly basis, as is apparent from current details’’ Mr Fairbairn said.
The Association will continue to closely monitor petrol and diesel prices across the country and report these through AA PetrolWatch.
