Dec. Qtr. Television Advertising revenue up 11.3%

December Quarter Television Advertising revenue up 11.3%

Television advertising revenue increased by 11.3 per cent for the three months to 31 December 2002 over the same period in 2001. The quarterly increase follows on the 6.6 per cent increase recorded for the quarter to 30 September 2002.

The NZTBC's Executive Director, Bruce Wallace said, "The strong momentum in sales reflects the fact that advertisers were confident throughout the build up to Christmas that the New Zealand consumer was willing and able to spend across a range of products and services. Retail and fast moving consumer goods fuelled the growth along with the launch of new car models."

Viewing levels also rose over the same period in 2001, growth being most evident amongst household shoppers with children and the 18-39 age group. Mr Wallace said that these levels reflected in the audience ratings for shows such as Frontier House, Mitre 10 Dreamhome, CSI and SVU.

The NZTBC is made up of the four companies operating national broadcast television channels. They are CanWest New Zealand, Prime Television New Zealand, Sky Network Television and Television New Zealand.
