EECA GETS MORE MONEY FOR AUDIT GRANTS
Unprecedented demand for energy audit grants has resulted in the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) doubling this year's allocation to $300,000. All this money has to be granted to organisations for energy audits by 30 June 2003.
Results from the audit grant scheme to date have been impressive. Last year, EECA allocated $146,000 to businesses for audit grants. Savings identified by those audits totalled almost $2.5 million, making them a very good investment!
Consultants using the Audit Grant Scheme as a sales tool are adamant that it helps sell audits.
EECA's audit grants are only available for energy audits done by EMA accredited auditors, or auditors seeking accreditation.
EECA strongly encourages all consultants wishing to do energy audits to obtain EMA accreditation. There are currently only 8 accredited auditors. These individuals, and their employers, gain considerable commercial advantage through being accredited.
For further information on Energy Audit Grants or auditor accreditation, please contact Dan Coffey at EECA ph 04 470 2230 or email: dan.coffey@eeca.govt.nz

GRI AND GLOBAL COMPACT JOIN FORCES
The latest Deloitte CO2 Update reports that the two leading sustainability reporting programs have formed a new cooperative framework. The Global Reporting Institute (GRI) is a body developing reporting rules for sustainability reports while the UN's Global Compact, overseen by the secretary general, encourages companies to deal with the 'nine-point' principles including human, labour and environmental rights. The bodies claim that working together creates a process for greater accountability and ensures the two programs achieve the same goals.
