Compac On Expansion Path
Compac Sorting Equipment has just completed another stage of its global expansion plans, with the opening of a
subsidiary in the US to service its lucrative fruit and vegetable packing markets.
The company, whose innovative fruit and vegetable handling technology has underpinned its steady growth over the past
18 years, also has a strong presence in the Australian market.
Compac’s Executive Director, David Buys, says the company initially entered the US with a highly innovative solution to
remove frost-damaged oranges from saleable fruit.
“We exceeded their expectations and that led on to other orders, both in California and in Washington State, where the
apple crop alone is more than five times the size of New Zealand’s.”
Mr Buys says the ‘can-do’ attitude of New Zealand engineers has played a significant role in building the US market for
the company.
The US market now accounts for around half of the software and machinery exported by Compac, with US orders up 800% in
the past five years.
