Mobile Coverage Improves In Christchurch

MOBILE COVERAGE IMPROVES WITH TWO TELECOM AND VODAFONE SITES IN CHRISTCHURCH

Thousands of Christchurch people are enjoying improved mobile phone coverage thanks to a unique initiative between the Christchurch City Council, Telecom and Vodafone.

The initiative enabled the companies to locate mobile phone site facilities on council land, resulting in improved service around QEII Park and Burnside Park. In both cases Vodafone and Telecom have jointly accommodated their equipment at the same location. The projects have involved a significant investment to improve coverage for Christchurch people.

"The full consultation process resulted in a high level of community support for these sites", Jeni Mundy, Vodafone's Director of Technology said. "This initiative has provided a win-win situation, where we have been able to develop sites in locations suited to providing good coverage for our customers."

“The new council-run process allows the companies to improve service to customers in areas that have in the past been difficult, and in a way that lets the community have their say and get involved,” Lorraine Witten, General Manager Telecom Mobile said. “It results in a good outcome for all involved and we’ve both had a considerable amount of positive feedback,” she said.

Both companies’ spokespeople said they hope that Christchurch customers will be pleased with the improvement in the quality of mobile phone coverage in their local area.

“We’d also like to thank Christchurch people for their drive and support to set up an initiative that works well for everyone.”
