Entrepreneurship is alive and well in New Zealand
- but what happened to Wealth Generation?

A public forum entitled Entrepreneurship is Alive and Well in New Zealand, But What Happened to Wealth Generation? will be held at the AUT Conference Centre, Auckland, on Wednesday 27 November, 5:15 - 7:30pm.

This is one of the forums in the series Creating a New New Zealand sponsored by Anew NZ, an independent, non-partisan network of motivated and concerned New Zealanders seeking a sustainable future.

At the forum, The Bartercard Global Entrepreneurship Monitor New Zealand 2002 report, released last week, will be summarized by its author, Professor Howard Frederick. Prof. Frederick is Head of the New Zealand Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, UNITEC.

The central question to be addressed by the forum is: "What is the relationship between entrepreneurship and economic growth?" New Zealand is well up the world ranks in total entrepreneurial activity - yet lags far behind in wealth creation.

A panel of nine influential leaders will discuss the topic. Participants are: The Honourable John Tamihere (Small Business portfolio), Tony Falkenstein (Chairman of Bartercard New Zealand), Fran O'Sullivan (Assistant Editor, NZ Herald), Bryan Mogridge (businessman and professional director) Ella Henry (UNITEC Head of Maori Studies), John O'Hara (well-known software entrepreneur), Annette Black (venture capitalist), John Blackham (software entrepreneur and commentator on government initiatives) and Matti Wall (Competitive Auckland).

The purpose of the evening is to enlist public dialogue and debate about the importance of entrepreneurship in economic growth. It is hoped it will stimulate both public and private initiatives aimed at boosting the New Zealand economy. A concrete proposal for the creation of a National Commission on Entrepreneurship will be considered. A working group that emerges will address this and other issues, together with a nationwide web-based discussion.
