Manawatu Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey 2002
The Manawatu 2002 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Surveys conducted by Research International was released today at noon.
This is the first survey round that has used the latest 2001 Department of Statistics Census Data, which indicates that there are approximately 94,900 people aged over 10 years in the Manawatu survey area used for the Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these 94,900 people, 89.0% of them listen to a commercial radio station at some time during the week.
The survey, conducted over 6 weeks and sampling 1,089 people aged 10 years and over has found that 92.2XS continues to have the most listeners each week, with 32,200 different people tuning in each week. 93.0 The Edge retains second place with 20,000 different listeners each week, followed by Newstalk ZB who move up to third place with 15,700 listeners. Classic Hits moves to fourth place with 15,100 listeners and Magic 828AM/98.6FM secures fifth place with 14,900 different listeners each week.
The commercial radio station with the highest market share in the Manawatu continues to be 92.2XS with a 19.5% share of the market. Newstalk ZB moves up to second place with a 12.0% share of commercial radio listening in Manawatu, followed by 93.0 The Edge with a 9.9% share. The Rock moves to fourth place with a 9.4% share and Magic 828AM/98.6FM moves up to fifth in the market with an 8.9% share of commercial radio listening in the Manawatu.
Breakfast results show 92.2XS continuing to hold the highest share, with a 23.0% of the commercial radio breakfast market. Newstalk ZB retains its second placing at breakfast with a 15.2% share, followed by Magic 828AM/98.6FM with a 12.4% share. The Rock 95.4FM retains its fourth placing this round with a 8.6% share of the breakfast market. Radio Pacific moves up to fifth place at breakfast with a 8.2% share of the commercial radio breakfast market.
The margin of error on these results is +/- 3.0%
