CAANZ Media Release

Golds Galore For New Zealand Agencies

The first New Zealand EFFIE® Awards were held at a gala show in Auckland on Thursday 29th August.

Twenty-five awards were presented, including the Grand EFFIE for Best in Show and another Grand Award for Sustained Success. Marketing Professional of the Year was Jonathan Symons, General Manager Marketing, for ASB Bank.

FCB New Zealand won 2 gold EFFIE awards for their Foodstuffs campaign for Pam’s and the Health Department Mental Health Foundation campaign “Famous People”. The Jamie Oliver campaign for Pam’s was also voted Best in Show.

Generator Bates won a Grand EFFIE for their Wendy’s campaign “Kiwi Dave”.

Saatchi& Saatchi won the highest number of EFFIE Awards, with 6. They won gold for their Womens Refuge campaign, which was the most-awarded campaign of the night picking up 2 silver EFFIE awards in other categories.

DDB won a gold in the e-tail/retail category for their “Weak Day Pricing” campaign for McDonald’s. They also won a Silver award for their Cadbury campaign for “Throaties”. WRC added to their group tally, garnering silver and bronze awards for ANZ’s Bonus Bonds “Million Dollar March”.

WhybinTBWA and ASB Bank collected a gold EFFIE for their home lending campaign using the ever-popular Ira Goldstein character. This campaign also collected a bronze EFFIE.

Meares Taine won a gold EFFIE in the integrated category for their Viagra re-launch for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals.

Just getting through to become a finalist is a “hell of an achievement” says CAANZ Executive Director, Lynne Clifton. The EFFIE program has very clear judging processes and criteria. To become a finalist means you have achieved outstanding results. Winning an award means that the campaign was exceptional. The Gold EFFIE Awards are rare, and treasured.”

EFFIE awards are recognised by advertisers and agencies as the pre-eminent award in the advertising industry – the world standard in measuring the success of an advertising campaign and a demonstration of partnership between agency and client in the creation, management and building of a brand. They are awarded only when smart marketing, advertising and media disciplines have come together to provide true impact in the marketplace and require bullet-proof evidence of marketing and advertising objectives and their subsequent measurement.

EFFIE programs are held in 19 countries on five continents, and represent the pinnacle in advertising effectiveness. Our New Zealand EFFIEs will place our work alongside some of the greatest campaigns the world has ever seen.

CAANZ holds the EFFIE franchise for New Zealand. Television New Zealand is the major sponsor.

EFFIE award winners and case studies will be online from Friday 30 August on www.effie.co.nz
