Eastern Expressway Huge Tonic For Confidence

Eastern Expressway Huge Tonic For Confidence

At last we're getting the Eastern corridor underway!

Its like a huge weight being lifted from off the back of Auckland's competitiveness. The expressway proposals are a massive tonic for business confidence.

The Employers & Manufacturers Association says it's been actively seeking just such an outcome for the past three years.

"Mayors Curtis and Banks and their team are to be heartily congratulated," said Alasdair Thompson, EMA's chief executive.

"The proposals for the expressway are precisely what we've lobbied for.

"The $460 million enhanced expressway has an immediate positive benefit compared to the costs. By 2009 the benefits are shown to exceed the costs four times over.

"The figures are proof the proposals should proceed under urgency. Auckland has been waiting for 37 years already for this vital link in our road network to be built.

"Business is especially pleased that multi modal public transport options are allowed for, though on their own they can't possibly relieve Auckland's chronic congestion."
