Contact Energy Plans For Maui Outage

27 August 2002

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact Energy Plans For Maui Outage

Contact Energy Ltd expects to continue supplying its natural gas customers on a “business as usual” basis during the inspection and maintenance programme announced by Maui Development Ltd for the Maui gas field today.

“Based on our current understanding of gas availability, Contact does not believe that there will be any restrictions to commercial, residential or industrial customers as a result of the reduced capacity of the Maui field during this period,” Contact’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, David Hunt, said.

The Maui outage would coincide with a standard, planned 25,000 Equivalent Operating Hours maintenance programme for Contact’s 380MW gas-fired Otahuhu-B plant.

The electricity industry is already aware of the planned Otahuhu-B outage, which is programmed to take approximately 10 to 12 weeks and had always been planned for summer months, when demand for electricity is traditionally at its lowest.
