Telecom Increases Security for NZ Businesses

Telecom Increases Security for New Zealand Businesses

Telecom today launched its first fast Internet business service with built-in security.

Telecom Group Marketing Manager - Business, Graham Walmsley, said Secure Business Internet includes a managed firewall and anti-virus email filter to provide businesses with a more secure and reliable Internet service.

The service is provided over Telecom’s secure private network, which then passes traffic to the Internet. Telecom manages the day-to-day running of the service including providing the customer equipment, setting up the firewall and updating the anti-virus email filter.

“Telecom understands that small to medium businesses want to focus on managing their business rather than spending time and resources managing security for their Internet connection,” Mr Walmsley.

The online Firewall Management System also gives businesses the flexibility to customise their security settings to meet their individual needs.

Mr Walmsley said Secure Business Internet signalled Telecom’s commitment to integrate services for business customers. This approach means a simplified and more cost effective service for small and medium businesses.

“Businesses are increasingly seeking all their services from a single provider and to be rewarded for doing so. Telecom is offering this complete package to respond to these needs,” Mr Walmsley said.

Secure Business Internet includes:

- A fast Internet connection

- A managed firewall with flexible security settings

- A router on the customer’s premise

- An anti-virus email filter

- Five mailboxes

- Hosting for a New Zealand domain name

- One Static public IP address

- Additional services, including the option of URL filtering.

Peak speed for a Secure Business Internet IP link is 512 kilobits per second and is provided via Telecom’s Core IP Network and ADSL. Telecom manages the connection from the router on the business premises through the Internet gateway which links to the Internet, allowing businesses to spend more time on their business.

The plans range from Secure Business Internet 600 with a monthly allowance of 600 megabytes for $199 a month, after which each additional MB costs 18 cents, to Secure Business Internet 10000 with a monthly allowance of 10,000 MBs for $999 a month, after which each additional MB costs 10.7 cents. All prices exclude GST.

Secure business Internet can also be seamlessly integrated with Telecom’s all-IP interoffice service, Private Office Networking.

Businesses purchasing a Secure Business Internet plan before 5 November will have the service installed free, saving up to $300.
