Changes To Shirley Postshop Location

27 June 2002

New Zealand Post announced today it would end its franchise agreement with the Shirley PostShop in a month's time and open a new store in the Palms Mall.

New Zealand Post Group Retail Manager, Terence Delaney, said the Shirley Post Shop, which is part of Marshlands Road Pharmacy situated at 20 Marshlands Road, would close on Friday 26 July and be replaced by a corporate PostShop.

"Discussions are well advanced regarding a site in the Palms Mall and we anticipate opening the new PostShop on Monday 29 July."

Mr Delaney said New Zealand Post had exercised the option available to both parties in the franchise agreement to give one month's notice prior to the expiry of the 12-month franchise contract. Franchise agreements are signed for three years initially followed by yearly renewal. The Shirley PostShop franchise agreement is about to conclude its fourth year.

"For New Zealand Post, there is a stronger business case in operating a corporate Post Shop than maintaining a franchise agreement. The Palms Mall site is larger, allowing us to provide a stand-alone PostShop with a wider range of products and services and a better financial return for New Zealand Post.

"This is a commercial decision and we expect the transfer to the Palms Mall site to take place without disruption to our customers."

Subject to finalising the lease agreement, customers will be offered the full range of New Zealand Post services at the new corporate PostShop, including a Kiwibank branch. Private boxes will be available at a site adjacent to the shop in the Palms Mall.
