ASB Bank Branches To Close For Colleague’s Funeral

Media Release
20 May 2002

ASB Bank Branches To Close For Colleague’s Funeral

Statement made by Hugh Burrett, Managing Director ASB BANK

As a sign of respect to John Vaughan, ASB BANK branches will close around the country tomorrow from 1:00pm for the rest of the day.

The Bank’s Contact Centre and Internet banking services will remain open, as will ASB Securities.

The closure of our branch network will allow staff who would like to attend John’s funeral at 2pm tomorrow, to do so. It also gives those unable to attend, the opportunity to reflect on the loss of our colleague.

Special memorial services are also being planned by ASB BANK staff in other parts of New Zealand.

The funeral is a time for ASB BANK staff to gather alongside John’s family and friends, to offer support and to grieve properly themselves.

This has been a traumatic time for colleagues at the bank and we would like to thank customers and the wider public for their incredible show of support and wishes of sympathy. We hope they respect our decision to close our branches tomorrow afternoon in honour of John.

Branches will reopen at the normal time on Wednesday as the best way we can honour John’s memory is to continue to serve our customers with the same commitment as ever.

Ends.
