ASB Bank Confirms Armed Robbery
Statement made by Hugh Burrett, Managing Director ASB BANK
We confirm with regret that a male staff member has been shot in an armed robbery at our Mangere Bridge branch in Manukau City.
We have been advised that his condition is serious.
ASB BANK staff are with the male staff member in hospital. We are currently supporting the injured man’s family. We are also supporting the other staff members who were in the branch at the time and have made contact with their families.
ASB BANK has ‘state of the art’ security, and staff are well trained in the event of a robbery. Teller controlled entrance doors and other security devices were in operation at this branch.
We understand that our staff members were not acting in any way which would have provoked the robber and that at the time of the shooting the robber was in possession of stolen money and leaving the premises.
No other staff or customers in the branch at the time were injured.
We will be releasing further details about the incident as they come to hand.
Ends.
