Monteith’s Celtic Beer Strikes Gold At International Brewing Oscars

Monteith’s Celtic has won gold in its class for the Best International Ale at the 2002 Brewing Industry International Awards in the United Kingdom yesterday.

Monteith’s Celtic, an Irish-style red beer, competed against top international beers in the Awards. Monteith’s Brewing Company brewer, Malcolm Stratton, says he is absolutely thrilled with the win.

“The gold medal is recognition by fellow professional brewers that Monteith’s is continuing to make some of the world’s best beer and that Celtic is an outstanding commercial example of its style,” Malcolm says.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of the Brewing Industry', the Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA) are recognised as the most prestigious in the world.

The Awards are judged entirely by practicing professional brewers from around the world, who assess the beers solely on the commercial-worth of their quality.

This recent medal adds to the Monteith’s brands’ increasing collection. Last year, Monteith’s autumn limited-seasonal release, Monteith’s Saison Biere, won first prize, Champion Ale, at the Australasian International Beer Awards in Sydney.

Earlier in 2001, Monteith’s Brewing Company won a silver medal for its Saison Biere in the Hort Research Specialty Ales/Lagers Section of the annual New Zealand Hop Marketing Board International Beer Awards. Monteith’s Black Beer, Monteith’s Original Ale, Monteith’s Pilsner and Monteith’s Golden Lager also won awards in various categories.

The 2002 BIIA’s Best International Ale medal is the first gold for Monteith’s Celtic, which is one of five styles in the Monteith’s family of beers.

Monteith’s Celtic Beer has a burnt-red colour, is characteristed by a dry roasted malt flavour and is the perfect accompaniment for rich foods such as venison.
