Anchor Milk Production Begins In South Island

For the first time South Islanders can enjoy Anchor milk produced from New Zealand Dairy Food’s own South Island based milk plant.

New Zealand Dairy Foods new plant in Hornby, Christchurch, commenced operation this week and will supply Anchor Milk to the South Island.

Kevin Bowler, General Manager Beverages of New Zealand Dairy Foods says. “Opening the South Island plant is part of an overall growth strategy for New Zealand Dairy Foods and it gives us a real opportunity to become a major player in this market. Over the next few months we will be rolling out some exciting initiatives to really build the Anchor brand in the South Island.”

“The establishment of the plant has gone extremely smoothly thanks to the local contractors who worked with us on this. Without their support we would not have been able to open so quickly.”

The New Zealand Dairy Foods Beverages Division will employ 40 sales and production staff within the Christchurch area and milk will be sourced from local dairy farmers through Fonterra.

One change locals will benefit from is that the entire Anchor milk range will now be available in the uniquely shaped Anchor plastic bottles. The specially designed bottle has proven to be extremely popular with consumers, giving greater control when pouring as well as being easier to store in the standard household fridge.

Until now Anchor milk has been produced by Southern Fresh Milk under a licensing agreement with New Zealand Dairy Foods and by Marlborough Milk who are half owned by New Zealand Dairy Foods. Marlborough Milk will continue to provide white milk for the upper South Island as well as producing flavoured milks and specialty products for New Zealand Dairy Foods throughout the South Island.
