TVNZ Confirms News And Current Affairs Structure

TVNZ Head of News and Current Affairs, Heaton Dyer today announced the on-air line up for 2002 and a modified management structure.

TVNZ launches its post holiday season line-up next week with considerable strength and following a holiday period that has seen both Breakfast and One News attracting an increased audience share and overall viewing numbers over the same period last year.

Richard Long and Judy Bailey will be back presenting One News from next week and are both looking forward to an exciting year said Mr Dyer.

"Alison Mau, April Ieremia, Bernadine Oliver-Kerby, Jim Hickey, Karen Olsen, Kay Gregory, Michael Wilson, Mike Major, Simon Dallow, and Susan Wood will each return to their respective and valued on-camera roles.

"Joining the Breakfast team from Monday will be Neil Waka as our morning newsreader. Neil brings considerable experience to the job and with the return of Mike Hosking and the addition of Kate Hawkesby we can look forward to a show that will have a consistent on-camera line-up and will only go from strength to strength.

"Julie White has made a strong contribution through the summer and will now become the regular host of Midday and will also continue to contribute to One News as a reporter for the 6pm bulletin.

"Peter Williams has also put in a fine effort over the past few weeks and he will present Late Edition in Linda Clark's absence.

"Off camera a new senior role, that of Deputy Head of News and Current Affairs has been created and will be filled by Trish Carter. On a day to day basis, Trish will take on key responsibility overseeing both the 'input' and 'output' sides of our primary daily focus, One News and Holmes.

"The Regional Bureau Editors as well as the Political Editor, the Foreign Editor and the Sports Editor will report to Trish which will ensure that these vital positions are given the scope and responsibility for generating more original story ideas, resulting in a stronger news service that will benefit our audience.

"2002 represents exciting opportunities and challenges for TVNZ as it moves to embrace its new Charter from July. I am confident that these changes to the news and current affairs team will enable us to further improve our on-screen performance," said Mr Dyer.
