Focus On Immigrants' Skills Is Welcome
Changes to immigration policy have two main benefits, according to Business NZ Chief Simon Carlaw
"Making the skilled/ business category 60% of the total immigration numbers provides more certainty than the previous situation where business migrants 'topped up' other categories," Mr Carlaw said.
"There is no reason why this percentage could not be increased over time, to improve economic growth.
"The 'Talent Visa' initiative to attract highly employable people who will then be able to move from temporary to permanent residence status, is also helpful, as we want to avoid skilled people being prevented from working in their area of expertise."
Mr Carlaw said it was pleasing the Government was focusing on gaining skilled people for the numerous areas of skill shortage.
