Telecom Manages Call Traffic To USA

Published: Wed 12 Sep 2001 01:49 PM
Telecom is asking New Zealanders to limit calling to the United States as much as possible today following the crisis in New York and Washington.
Local networks in the States, particularly around New York, are heavily overloaded.
Telecom has maintained normal service to the States but some calls have not been connected because of overloading on local networks there.
Telecom has also been advised that most sizeable businesses in the States have sent staff home during the course of Tuesday, and that has meant calls have gone unanswered.
Limiting calls to the States only to those that are absolutely necessary will help overcome local network congestion in that country and restore services to normal.
Early today, Telecom moved rapidly to re-route some traffic to the United Kingdom that is normally carried through New York. Normal service levels have been maintained by using our links with other carriers.
